Weight - Maths

Monday 22 July 2019
Today we begun learning about weight for maths.

We looked at 2 parcels and had to guess which one we thought would be heavier and which one would be lighter. Most of us thought that the bigger item would be heavier due to its size. We were surprised when we held them and discovered that the smaller parcel was heavier!

We learnt that the size of the object doesn't relate to its weight.

We were given a ball of play-dough to make a cat with. Then chose a partner and had to guess which cat would be heavier. Some of us thought that because their cat was longer it would be heavier. We learnt it was actually about how much play dough we were given, not about the size or shape of our cat. We used balance scales to compare the weight of 2 objects.
